The Haunting Begins

It was a cool, mist-shrouded October night in the year 1804. The residents of this house were a kind, peaceful family of farmers. They had just finished their chores and were headed to the house for the evening, when out of the fog appeared the shadowy form of a man. Worn by his travels and shaking with fever, he collapsed on the porch. The family put aside their fears and carried him into the house so that they could comfort him.

In the few hours of life he had remaining, he told stories of war. How he led a band of notorious renegade soldiers on countless excursions behind enemy lines. How they slaughtered their foe by the hundreds. Were these the fevered delusions of a crazy old derelict or the deathbed confession of a murderous madman? If he was the warrior that he claimed to be, this was one battle that he would not win. He was buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in this very hollow.

One hundred years later, while opening the main shaft of a coal mine here in the hollow, the wretched skeleton of a man was discovered and cast aside. The miners jokingly referred to the desecrated remains as the "bony pile."

It was then that trouble began. Not much at first, but the miners became suspicious something was awry when carbide lamps went out and picks and shovels disappeared from their work sites. Eventually, however, "accidents" began happening to the workers. Miners were crushed by coal cars, impaled on roof posts or burnt alive in mysterious fires. The mine was quickly abandoned.

The story quickly spread that the wicked spirit of the renegade was responsible, the "Spirit of the Hollow." Since that time, the dark forces have brought many demonic spirits to the hollow, some dead, some still living. Do you dare disturb them? Will you be next?
